Healthy Snacks For Child
By Leeanne Utiger Everyone who has children needs to know all there is to know about healthy snacks for their children. In this article you will find out more about how your children can start to eat healthier food and snacks between their meals.
Too many children reach for a quick and easy snack food bar these days, which generally is not all that healthy for them. Either that, or the salt drenched bag of crisps. These are ok for a treat, but too many crisps will not do your child any good. In fact snacks such as these or lollies will in fact make your child or children gain weight and reduce their energy levels. I am going to go into brief details about healthy snacks.
There are wide range of healthy snacks you can either purchase or prepare for your children, and all of them are just that, extremely healthy. It is much easier for your child to get used to eating healthy snacks if that is what you have most of in the kitchen cupboards and also inside your refrigerator.
There are some healthy snacks more suitable for summer months and othes more suitable for the winter months. These snacks i have explained a bit about below.
On the hot summer days, it is advisable to have frozen fruit juice in the freezer. This is a great healthy snack for them. You can prepare these yourself. The only thing you will need to have on hand are ice-block moulds which you can purchase from any kitchen store. Make sure you buy from the supermarket a fruit juice your children like to drink, (orange is a very common favourite) and simply pour into the ice-block moulds and place in your freezer. These are great for thirst and to cool down your children on a hot day. And it sure beats your children reaching for a glass of cola or other fizzy drinks. Fizzy drinks once again, should only be consumed in moderation. Fruit juice is a lot more healthy for children than these fizzy drinks.
The best healthy snack food you could have readily available to your children is fresh fruit. Fruit is a very main part of anybodies diet. Fruit snacks provide minerals and vitamins that we all need, so this is no different for your children. If you have to, cut your healthy fruit snacks up into pieces and use a variety of fruits. Place them on a platter so your children have the choice as to which fruit snacks they wish to have.
Other suitable healthy snack foods you can offer your children are raisins, prunes, dried apricots, cracker biscuits to name a few. These are also healthy snacks that you can place into your childrens lunch boxes.
If you choose to serve your children up cracker biscuits for a helathy snack, ask them to help you prepared them. This will encourage them to eat what they themselves have prepared. It is amazing what self help can do. Slice up some tomato and cucumber, some cheese, even cottage cheese, or simple spreads such as marmite can also be used on cracker biscuits. Your children can then choose their own healthy topping to accompany their healthy cracker biscuits.
Try some cut up celery sticks or carrot sticks. These are healthy snacks and great for children to munch on between meals. Remember to always have snacks as light as possible. If your children eat heavy foods as a snack, by the time dinner time arrives, they will still have full stomachs from the snack they had prior to their evening meal.
Also when your children have a snack, even if it is healthy, never let them over eat. Snacks are just that, something small and light to nibble on to relieve hunger temporarily until the next main course.
If it is a cold winters day, you can even make a little extra effort and make for your children cheese toasties in the oven as a helathy snack. Toast a couple of slices of bread, place some sliced cheese on the toasted bread, place this on to an oven tray and then grill for a couple of minutes. This is a great winter snack, yet healthy for your children. They will be getting some of their required daily calcium requirements from within the cheese. Obviously another great healthy snack choice.
Basically anything other than junk food can be considered a healthy snack, but as I said above, any snack, even healthy, should be eaten in small quantities. It is after all a snack, and not a main meal.
