Many children will at one time or another suffer with sleep problems. Sleep problems for children vary from one child to the next. Just as the cause of a child having a problem with sleep can vary from one thing to another. Believe it or not, but there are not many children who do in fact have a true sleep disorder. A child sleep disorder actually only affects approximately ten percent of children.

Some circumstances that can cause a sleep problem in a child are very easily managed and fixed. If a child still has the ability of wetting his or her bed, this in fact could become a cause of your child having a problem with sleep. If your child does in fact wet his or her bed, simply change the bedding linen and resettle your child back to sleep in a nice dry bed. No one can possibly be expected to sleep in a bed that is wet. Other children may also suffer from sleep problems simply because they are either too hot or too cold in their bed and bedroom. To fix or eliminate this cause of sleeping problem, make sure the bedroom your child sleeps in well ventilated and either cooled or warmed depending on which is causing your child to have a problem with their sleep. In the colder months it is advisable to use either a hot water bottle or an electric blanket to pre warm your Childs bed before you tuck in them for the night to go to sleep.

Some children do in fact have problems with their sleep simply because they are not eating adequately. Make sure before your child goes to bed each night that he or she has in fact had a decent healthy meal for dinner, even a warm cup of milk can help your child to sleep better. A child contracting a sore throat or earache will also cause sleep problems for him or her. Other causes of your child having a problem with sleep can include: illness, sore tummy, nightmares, sudden noises, toileting amongst others. If you need to know what other things can be the cause of your child having a problem with sleep, I suggest you request some further information from either a child nurse or medical center.

Child Sleep Disorder:
As I mentioned above in the article a true sleep disorder in a child is rare and only affects about ten percent of children. However if you really feel concern over the possibility that your child may have a sleep disorder, I suggest you schedule an appointment at your family doctor clinic and have your child examined. There is a medication that a child can take to alleviate sleep disorder. That medication is: Melatonin. However this medication will only be prescribed to a child by a licensed doctor once a diagnosis of sleep disorder has been made in some countries. However in the US Melatonin is sold as an over the counter drug for the condition of a sleep disorder.

Sometimes it is very hard to decide whether you need to be concerned about your child possibly having a sleep disorder. This is simply because many children constantly have problems with sleeping anyway due to one cause or another. However if you do further research and speak to someone in the medical profession, you will learn how to differentiate the difference between sleeping problems that a lot children suffer and a real sleep disorder.

There are many organizations that you can get in contact with to discuss sleep disorders with if you have any further concerns or need to find a support group due to your child in fact having a sleep disorder. Narcolepsy Network comes to mind when one thinks of support groups relating to sleep disorders. I am sure if you flick through your local telephone directory, you will be able to locate other organizations that can assist you further with your queries on sleep disorder.
