Childhood Bipolar Disorder - Bipolar Symptom In Child
By Leeanne Utiger Bipolar is an illness than many of you may have hard about, and yet do not know a great deal about. Bipolar can be often diagnosed too easily, or often not diagnosed at all. There are varying reasons for this. However I will not be getting into that in this article. In this particular article I will be detailing in brief information regarding a child who has the disorder of bipolar to contend with in their childhood. In a second section to this article I will go into some detail about what the symptoms of childhood bipolar disorder are. Even if you do not know any children that suffer from this horrible disorder and illness, this article could be very interesting reading for you, and you just may recognize some of the symptoms I will detail for you in someone else’s child.
Childhood Bipolar Disorder:
Unfortunately there is in the world, a percentage of children in their childhood who do in fact suffer from the bipolar disorder. Finding out that your child does have a bipolar disorder can be nerve wracking and heart wrenching. However if you learn all you can about bipolar disorder, it will make your understanding of the disorder illness easier to bear, and will in fact aid you in your support and courage for your child who has bipolar.
First and foremost, if you have some reason to believe that your child has, or holds a higher chance of having the bipolar disorder, seek advice and medical assistance as soon as possible. You want to do all you can to give to your child the best childhood you can. Learn all you possibly can on the disorder of bipolar, so you have some inside knowledge to arm yourself with if need be. Never walk into a medical center without any prior knowledge to a bipolar disorder. The more you know about childhood bipolar disorder, the more likely you will be to get a diagnosis from your doctor regarding the possibility of your child actually having a bipolar disorder.
Bipolar disorder is known as a manic depressive illness, and yes, believe it or not, a child can suffer from a state of manic depressiveness (Bipolar Disorder). However, if the childhood bipolar disorder is found/diagnosed and a plan of treatment put in place as soon as possible, your child who suffers from bipolar disorder can lead a very productive life. Remarkably, not a high percentage of young children in their childhood will suffer from bipolar disorder, yet if could be dormant until they reach their early adolescent years and adulthood. Or you simply do not stop to think that a child can in fact have bipolar and therefore bipolar is never diagnosed. More often than not, it is the symptoms of bipolar disorder that occur in childhood which are overlooked, therefore causing late diagnosis and bipolar disorder actually becoming into affect as an illness in later years.
It is believed that a child who suffers from bipolar disorder has a parent or parents who also suffer from bipolar disorder. Childhood suffers of bipolar disorder will go through the different experiences as that of an adult or adolescent with bipolar disorder. The child can go through many very fast changing mood swings throughout the entire day. Children who suffer bipolar disorder and are experiencing mania (which is state of being high) are bound to be extremely irritable and quite destructive. But more on the symptoms of childhood bipolar disorder in the next section of this article.
Symptoms of Childhood Bipolar:
There are many symptoms to indicate a child may in fact have bipolar disorder. However many times these symptoms of childhood bipolar can be overlooked or passed off as your child simply being naughty or not showing any learning skills. However some of the symptoms of childhood bipolar disorder are:
Displays of tantrums for apparently no reason
Irritability
Aggressiveness
Overly sadness
Little sleep required
Extreme lack of attention
Those symptoms I have listed above are symptoms you can see in a child who may be suffering from bipolar disorder. However be aware I said these symptoms 'may'. These symptoms could be symptoms of other mental illnesses. Or, they could just be symptoms of bad behavioral patterns being established.
